    Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, βασίλισσα Ελισάβετ, Άνγκελα Μέρκελ, Εμανουέλ Μακρόν, Τερέζα Μέι, Τζάστιν Τριντό, αλλά και Προκόπης Παυλόπουλος είναι μόνο μερικοί από τους ηγέτες του κόσμου που συμμετείχαν σήμερα στην τελετή που έγινε στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία, για την 75η επέτειο της απόβασης των συμμαχικών δυνάμεων στη γαλλική Νορμανδία το 1944.

    Την Ελλάδα εκπροσώπησε ο Προκόπης Παυλόπουλος, που κάθισε δίπλα στην απαστράπτουσα Μελάνια Τραμπ και στη βασίλισσα Ελισάβετ. Ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας ταξίδεψε σήμερα μέχρι το Πόρτσμουθ προκειμένου να παραβρεθεί στις εορταστικές εκδηλώσεις για την απόβαση των Συμμαχικών Δυνάμεων στη γαλλική Νορμανδία, την 5η Ιουνίου 1944, που σήμανε την αρχή του τέλους του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου και της ναζιστικής Γερμανίας.

    Στην τελετή, 300 ήρωες που επιβίωσαν από την εισβολή στη Γαλλία το 1944 ήταν οι επίτιμοι καλεσμένοι, με μια ομάδα να τους χαιρετά για τις θυσίες τους εναντίον της Γερμανίας του Χίτλερ.

    Ο Ντόναλντ Τραμπ συνοδευόμενος από την Πρώτη Κυρία Μελάνια, η οποία έδωσε πάλι ρεσιτάλ μόδας, με ένα λευκό παλτό και ένα λευκό καπέλο, κάθισαν δίπλα στη βασίλισσα και τον πρίγκιπα Κάρολο. Η Μελάνια, μάλιστα, είχε στα αριστερά της τον Πρόεδρο της Δημοκρατίας, Προκόπη Παυλόπουλο, ο οποίος ήταν αφοσιωμένος στην τελετή, με το προεδρικό ζεύγος της Αμερικής να μοιράζεται αστεία με τη βασίλισσα Ελισάβετ

    Συγκεκριμένα, στην πρώτη σειρά πήραν τις θέσεις τους ο Εμανουέλ Μακρόν, η Τερέζα Μέι, ο πρίγκιπας Κάρολος, η βασίλισσα Ελισάβετ, ο Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, η Μελάνια Τραμπ, ο Προκόπης Παυλόπουλος και η Άνγκελα Μέρκελ

    Το μήνυμα του Προκόπη Παυλόπουλου

    «Η ιστορική, από κάθε άποψη, επιχείρηση της Απόβασης στη Νορμανδία ήταν έργο της στενής συνεργασίας των διψασμένων για ελευθερία και Δημοκρατία λαών της Ευρώπης με τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες της Αμερικής. Αυτή η συνεργασία είναι επίκαιρη και αναγκαία, αν αναλογισθούμε τι συμβαίνει σήμερα στον Πλανήτη. Μέσω αυτής πρέπει, για μιαν ακόμη φορά, να υπερασπισθούμε, σε όλο τον κόσμο, την ειρήνη, την ελευθερία και την δημοκρατία. Και κάθε μια πλευρά αναλαμβάνει τις ευθύνες της απέναντι σε αυτό το ιστορικό χρέος», σημείωσε ο κ. Παυλόπουλος και πρόσθεσε:
    «Όσο για εμάς, τους πολίτες της Ευρώπης, η Επέτειος της Απόβασης στη Νορμανδία μας διδάσκει το χρέος να υπερασπιζόμαστε, στο διηνεκές, το ευρωπαϊκό οικοδόμημα, το οποίο γεννήθηκε μέσ´ από τις στάχτες του Β´ Παγκόσμιου Πολέμου, από τους κάθε είδους εχθρούς του, που επιχειρούν να το κατεδαφίσουν. Δεν θα περάσουν. Δεν θα τους επιτρέψουμε να παρεμποδίσουν την ευρωπαϊκή ολοκλήρωση, δεν θα τους επιτρέψουμε να απειλήσουν την ευρωπαϊκή δημοκρατία και τον ευρωπαϊκό πολιτισμό».
