Δύο πολύνεκρες επιθέσεις, με την υπογραφή του Ισλαμικού Κράτους, συγκλόνισαν τα ξημερώματα της Κυριακής το Ιράκ, με αποτέλεσμα να βρουν το θάνατο τουλάχιστον 125 άνθρωποι -μεταξύ των οποίων 15 παιδιά- και να τραυματιστούν άλλοι 170.

Η πρώτη και πλέον πολύνεκρη επίθεση, με παγιδευμένο με εκρηκτικά όχημα, σημειώθηκε στη συνοικία Καράντα της Βαγδάτης, ενώ η δεύτερη επίθεση σημειώθηκε στη σιιτική συνοικία Αλ Σάαμπ, στον βόρειο τομέα της ιρακινής πρωτεύουσας.

Η επίθεση στη συνοικία Καράντα έγινε έξω από πολυσύχναστο εμπορικό κέντρο. Συνολικά 86 άνθρωποι σκοτώθηκαν από την ισχυρότατη έκρηξη. Ανάμεσα σε νεκρούς είναι 15 παιδιά, 10 γυναίκες και έξι αστυνομικοί.

Την ευθύνη για το νέο αιματοκύλισμα ανέλαβε το Ισλαμικό Κράτος, σύμφωνα με την υπηρεσία παρακολούθησης των ισλαμιστικών ιστοτόπων SITE.

Οι επιθέσεις σημειώθηκαν μία εβδομάδα μετά την ανακατάληψη της Φαλούτζα από τις ιρακινές δυνάμεις.
